The ancient Chinese concept of the Three Levels of Healing evolved over an almost fifteen hundred year period through the interaction of shamanism, rulership, philosophy, and Classical Chinese Medicine.  In spite of its age, this concept is far more important now than ever before because it elevates typical ideas of curing disease to a level of healing that can’t even be imagined in current modern medical practices.  It’s important to understand these levels and put them into practice now before it is too late.

This level completely integrates the Body, Mind, and Spirit in a manner that not only heals individual problems simply and easily without causing any side effects, but also brings this level of healing to society and the world so that the problems we find there can be healed as well.

The Three Levels of Healing and Destiny is the first of a three-part course.  The focus is on the deeper self that lies within, otherwise known as the Jīng/Essence, inner potential, or Destiny. It describes how the thorough and complete system of ancient Chinese cosmogony was able to empower the healers of that early period as an example of what we could do today to empower our acupuncture/acupressure clients.

Fundamental to this process is the ancient idea of how our original wholeness was broken and what we can do to restore it.  This understanding is grounded in the separation of the Kidney and Heart at birth according to Classical Chinese Medicine.

This first course in the series will examine the nature of the Kidneys in particular and how their Yin-Yang imbalances begin this fundamental fragmentation of our original unity.  In turn, this fragmentation is directly related to the emotion of the Kidney and how its imbalances function to prevent the overall empowerment they have to offer us if we are to obtain these Three Levels of Healing for ourselves, our clients, and the world-at-large.

Lecture Topics Include:

  1. Acupuncture and Daoist Cosmogony
  2. Framework of the Word “Mìng-Destiny”
  3. Philosophical Foundation for Early Political Ideas
  4. The Split between Destiny and Inborn Nature
  5. Restoring Wholeness through the Development of Wisdom

This second level course on the Three Levels of Healing concerns the Shén/Spirit of the Heart and its related aspects—the Spirit Essence, the Bright Spirit, the Heart/Mind, and one’s Inborn Nature, as well as the controversial aspects of demons and ghosts and their interpretation and influence on the human psyche.  The focus will be on the Heart and how its deeper function is to fulfill this inner potential in the outer world as well as how this fundamental function is typically blocked.

Like the ancient ideas on Destiny covered in level one, the definition of the Shén/Spirit evolved over a considerable length of time in ancient China.  During this period, the meaning of this term wavered between spiritual and physiological interpretations as well as those that were in the middle of this Yin-Yang spectrum.

By analyzing the physiological, philosophical, religious, and psychological uses of this term during this extensive period, we will achieve a deeper level of understanding of who we really are, and how to apply this understanding in our acupuncture and acupressure practice.
The ultimate goal of this understanding is to relieve human suffering in this world by fully integrating the functions of the Body, Mind, and Spirit as well as to connect this integration to the social, political, and economic spheres of society for the purpose of attaining One Peaceful World.

As we shall see, the solution to these problems is so ultimately simple.  All we have to do is be ourselves.  But how do we do that in today’s world?  The answer to this question as well as a description as to how we got into this mess will be the underlying topic of this course.

Lecture Topics Include:

  1. The Shén-Spirit of the Heart
  2. Heaven and Earth and Birth of the Human Soul
  3. Substance, Function and Formation of the Shén-Spirit
  4. The Material, Spiritual, and Human Perspective
  5. Spirit Terms and the cultivation of Consciousness

The Three Levels of Healing in the Five Phases
10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

This third and final course in the Three Levels of Healing lecture series will bring everything home to your Acupuncture or Acupressure practice.

The Three Levels of Healing in ancient Classical acupuncture are the Symptomatic, Preventive, and Fulfilling Inner Potential Levels. They were formed through a synthesis of a statement made in the first Chinese herbal text (the Shénnóng běncǎo jīngby Táo Hóngjǐng) to this effect, an understanding of the Thematic Context of the Dàodéjīng, and early political ideas from the Shāng and Zhōu Dynasties concerning the Mandate of Heaven.  In Chinese Medicine, the Three Levels are related to an imbalance between Water and Fire, Metal and Wood, and the Soil Phase. This course will present these historical connections and define these Yin-Yang imbalances primarily on the psycho-emotional level.

Lecture Topics Include:

  1. Classical Acupuncture in the world’s Healing and Medical systems.
  2. Show how the integration of the political, philosophical, and medical Classics creates a higher standard for medical practice throughout the world in modern times.
  3. Explore the importance of Classical Five Phase theory in integrating the Three Levels through the fundamentally important relationship between the Body, Mind, and Spirit.
