Shakuju Therapy: Non-Insertive Acupuncture

Shakuju Therapy (SJT) is a treatment strategy founded upon Eastern Medicine philosophy and the principles of Qi. In this therapy, illness is understood and treated though an understanding that a persons “sho” (pattern) is a manifestation of a deviation and stagnation of Qi.

The term shaku refers to deep stagnation of Qi and Blood, and the term ju refers to superficial stagnation of Qi and Blood, as found in the hara or abdomen. Shakuju Therapy treatment is working to balance the body and to remove stagnation and cold (Hie) rather than to chase after the symptoms that appear as the outward manifestations.

The ultimate origin of all illness is explained by fundamental cold (Hie). Treatment consists of moving qi in the body and eradicating fundamental cold (Hie).

In general, the Japanese word "Hie" means coldness and cold temperature, but fundamental cold (Hie) in this context, means a decline of the body’s vital force and vacuity of Jing Qi.

The goal of SJT is to tonify Jing Qi, the body’s vital force, in order to eliminate symptoms.

Emphasis is on abdominal palpation and treatment of the spinal energy. Abnormal findings in the abdomen, shaku and ju, are the primary sources of diagnostic information and the treatment is performed on the dorsal region accordingly.

Shakuju is a non-insertive therapy and appropriate for all ages, from infants to the elderly, and highly effective to treat an extraordinary range of pathologies.
