Operating Resources

1. Operating Resources: Below is information, targeted to specifically assist practitioners in best practices and informed decision making. As you can understand this is a constantly evolving situation, we have provided as much accuracy as possible at the time of this writing (3/20/2020).

Business & Financial Resources

2. Business and Financial Resources: Many providers have been asking for guidance on whether or not to close their practices. This is an extraordinarily personal and challenging situation which requires each practitioner to make their own decision. To support you in the challenges ahead we have included links to resources related to your business.

Self-employed individuals and contract employees: Currently self-employed individuals and 1099 contract employees are not eligible for unemployment benefits. If the President of the United States makes a disaster unemployment declaration for Massachusetts or nationwide, the self-employed and 1099 contractors would become eligible for unemployment assistance. This is already coded into the DUA system and would be available immediately upon declaration and press release announcement.

There is significant variation in the recommendations and guidelines being offered from the state and federal levels.

Community Resources:

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine

5. Community Resources: In times like this we are reminded what is most important. Remember to appreciate and support one another, because when we invest in each other we invest in ourselves. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to join our professional organizations and FB communities so that we may support, connect and learn from each other.

6. Seeds of Hope: East-Asian and World Medicine Practitioners, Teacher and Students are often trailblazers and solo practitioners. When people come together in a time of crisis, there is the opportunity to transform and emerge stronger. Thanks to the efforts of leaders in our community more and more people are turning to Chinese Medicine. This pandemic has put a spotlight on Chinese herbal medicine as well.

While we are in troubled times, Chinese medicine has a bright future. We invite you to help advance our individual and shared professions by getting involved in our professional communities. Professional membership is a crucial part of this. If you found these resources helpful, consider sharing this email with your colleagues and, when you find yourself with a little extra time on your hands, volunteering.

For now, we send you healing thoughts and wish you and your family strong and robust Wei Qi.

Thank you for being part of our community.

Sincerely,
Lauren Paap, Founding Director of EMTEC
and the Acupuncture Society of Massachusetts
