Mass.Gov: Massachusetts Unemployment Information (COVID-19)
https://www.mass.gov/info-details/massachusetts-covid-19-unemployment-information

Self-employed individuals and contract employees: Currently self-employed individuals and 1099 contract employees are not eligible for unemployment benefits. If the President of the United States makes a disaster unemployment declaration for Massachusetts or nationwide, the self-employed and 1099 contractors would become eligible for unemployment assistance. This is already coded into the DUA system and would be available immediately upon declaration and press release announcement.

There is significant variation in the recommendations and guidelines being offered from the state and federal levels.

Workers' compensation: If a person contracts the virus for any work-related reason, that person could be eligible for workers’ compensation. If you qualify, you can receive payments to partially replace your paycheck and for medical care related to your injury.
Click here to learn more about workers' compensation.

In most cases, a claimant is not eligible for both unemployment benefits and workers’ compensation.

7. Seeds of Hope: East-Asian and World Medicine Practitioners, Teacher and Students are often trailblazers and solo practitioners. When people come together in a time of crisis, there is the opportunity to transform and emerge stronger. Thanks to the efforts of leaders in our community more and more people are turning to East-Asian Medicine. This pandemic has put a spotlight on Chinese herbal medicine as well.

While we are in troubled times, East-Asian medicine has a bright future. We invite you to help advance our individual and shared professions by getting involved in our professional communities. Professional membership is a crucial part of this. If you found these resources helpful, consider sharing this email with your colleagues and, when you find yourself with a little extra time on your hands, volunteering.

For now, we send you healing thoughts and wish you and your family strong and robust Wei Qi.

Thank you for being part of our community.

Sincerely,
Lauren Paap, Founding Director of EMTEC
and the Acupuncture Society of Massachusetts

P.S. Please continue to check back as we will continue to update our resource page throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Note: These resources were created by generous practitioners all over the world. They are meant to be distributed widely amongst East-Asian medicine practitioners; when sharing please reference authors and sources of the material. It is an opportunity to demonstrate our individual and collective practice of gratitude, appreciation and mutual respect.
