Barbara Blanchard, M.Ac. Lic.Ac., Dipl. Ac. (NCCAOM)® and Dipl. ABT (NCCAOM)® Founding Director of the former Acupressure Therapy Institute, Barbara Blanchard has more than 35 years experience in teaching and developing curriculum. She specializes in Acupressure Shiatsu, Acupoint energetics, traditional Chinese medical theory (TCM), magnet therapy, moxibustion and other adjunct therapies.

Barbara is a dynamic teacher interested in practical application of theory or best clinical results. With a lifelong passion for learning and education, in addition to her private practice in Cambridge, MA. Barbara is one of the three founding teachers and primary mentors for Eastern Medicinal Therapies Education Center (EMTEC).

Understanding Sleep Patterns and Disorders

Sleep disorders are a common condition seen in clinic. Chronic insomnia may often be challenging to treat. This workshop will present tools for understanding the quality and rhythm of sleep patterns from which one can create an individualized treatment strategy.

If you are using the standard acupuncture points for sleep disorders and insomnia with ineffective results, this workshop will give you a new perspective and treatment strategy for better clinical outcomes. You will have an opportunity for hands-on practice; both Acupuncture and Acupressure strategies will be covered.

3. Insomnia in Chinese Medicine
4. Sleep and the Extraordinary Vessels
5. Recognizing the Phases of the Sleep Cycle
6. Refining a Diagnosis of Insomnia using the Extraordinary Vessels
7. Acupuncture and Acupressure Treatment Protocols

Materials Kit:

A practical hands-on practice will require the use of magnets. Please bring with you the following: 800 gauss magnets, 2500 gauss magnets or other high gauss magnets, Manaka hammer/dowel, and tape. For those interested integrating magnet therapy into their practice, but do not already have supplies, Barbara will have kits available for purchase including Accuband 800 gauss magnet (12/pkg) and HPro 2500 gauss (2) for $11. Three Manaka hammer/dowel sets will also be available for $7.50.
